Welcome to Year 1, Week 49, Lesson 1.49.3. Today we will work on your English listening, conversation and reading skills. We begin with a dialogue-related Conversation Topic for English Learners to help with listening and reading comprehension. Then, we continue with Dialogue 27 from our English course, American English Conversations 3. Designed for beginners, each dialogue helps English Learners improve their comprehension and communication skills. You’re encouraged to read along and pronounce together with the video below. Once you finish, don’t forget to share what you’ve learned via the comments section below.

Part 1: Directions: Watch the video, read the text below, then translate the text in your primary language and read it again.

Hello Students. I’m sure you’re often asked to share your opinion, but how often is that in the English language? Today’s topic for discussion is “Giving Your Opinion”. Here are a few suggestions:
— Your family asks you where to go on vacation this Summer and asks you to help them make a decision. What would you tell your family?
— Your room mate purchased some new furniture for the living room and is asking you for your opinion on where to put it. What would you tell your room mate? What would your room mate tell you?
— You’ve just finished watching a movie at the movie theater with your date. You’re asked to discuss and share your opinion about the movie. What would you tell your date? What would your date tell you?
It’s always advisable to be diplomatic when sharing your opinion with others. If we have to disagree with the opinions of others, we can do it in a calm, friendly way.

PART 2 — DIRECTIONS: Read the dialogue below in English, then translate it and read it in your primary language.

Dialog 27: Giving Your Opinion

  • Jake:     Where should we take a vacation this year? Let’s decide soon.
  • Melissa:     Well, I’d like to go somewhere warm. How about the beach? Or we could rent a cabin on the lake.
  • Jake:     You want to go to the beach, again? I want to ski this winter. How about a compromise? What about traveling to the Alps in Europe next April? We can find a ski resort on a lake.
  • Melissa:     Oh, we’ve never been to Europe before! But I don’t know if it will be sunny and warm then. I need to do some research first. That will help me make up my mind.

PART 3 — DIRECTIONS: Watch, read-along, and pronounce with the video below a minimum of 2-3 times. After you finish, let us know what you learned via the comments section below.

When we need to decide on something, if possible, it would be advisable to listen ro some opinions.
For example, when we want to take a family vacation, make an investment or any other project, it is advisable to discuss the issue among all of us.
    Part 3
I think the most important was to learn how to give our opinon in a diplomatic and friendly way.
