Lesson 1.12.2 – American English Lessons With Maestro Sersea

Welcome to Year 1, Week 12, Lesson 1.12.2. Today we will work on your English listening and reading comprehension via 3 of our Conversation Topics for English Learners activities.

Part 1: Directions: Watch the video, read the text below, then translate the text in your primary language and read it again.

Hello, English Learners! Sometimes we run out of food and we need to go shopping. Sometimes our car is out of gas, and we need to fill it up with gas. These are examples of daily needs. Imagine having conversations about daily needs. What would you say? What would others say? Here are a few examples:
— You’re driving down the street, and hear one of your tires explode. Luckily, you’re in front of a tire shop and you drive up to the service bay. What do you say to the tire shop mechanic? What does the mechanic say to you?
— You’re at home, and check your refrigerator. You’re shocked to see that your refrigerator is empty. What would you tell your family? What would your family tell you?
— You ran out of shampoo and went to the supermarket to buy your favorite brand. Unfortunately, you can’t find the shampoo you’re looking for. What would you say to the supermarket stocking clerk? What would the clerk say to you?
It always helps to make a shopping list of what you need to buy, so that you don’t run out of what you need. What are some things that you need to buy?

Part 2: Directions: Watch the video, read the text below, then translate the text in your primary language and read it again.

When you’re preparing to attend an event and planning for it, you’re making a date. Today’s conversation topic for English Learners is making a date. Here are some suggestions:
— You met someone you really liked while waiting in line at a coffee shop. You exchanged numbers, and now you’re calling to set up a first date. What would you say? What would your potential date say?
— Your sister is graduating from high school, and you’re making plans with the entire family to attend her graduation. What would you say to your family? What would your family say to you?
— Your colleagues at work want to go to a baseball game during the weekend. You found the tickets online, and you want to help organize the social outing for your colleagues. What would you say? What would your colleagues say?
It’s always exciting to prepare for an event you’re planning to attend, especially with others who are close to you. What are some of the most important events you’ve attended with your family?

Part 3: Directions: Watch the video, read the text below, then translate the text in your primary language and read it again. Finally, add a comment about what you learned from Parts 1, 2, and 3 in the comments section below.

Everywhere on earth, people use busses for public transportation. Today’s conversation topic for English Learners is “Catching a Bus.” Have you ever had a conversation in a bus, or at a bus station? What did you talk about? Here are some suggestions:
— You’re getting into the bus, and the bus driver asks you to pay the bus fare. You don’t know how much to pay. What would you ask the bus driver? What would the bus driver say to you?
— You’re waiting for a bus in the bus station, and ask the person next to you how often the bus stops at the bus stop. What would you ask? What would the other person say?
— You’re in a bus, talking to a friend, and need to get off at the next stop. What would you say to your friend? What would your friend say to you?
Riding a bus is a common experience for billions of people all over the world. Do you ride a bus to work or school?
