Hi, English Learners. How are you doing today? Imagine you have to go on a business trip. What would you say to others? What would others say to you? Here are a few suggestions:
— You’re directing your secretary to call the hotel and make a reservation for two nights for your next business trip. What would you tell your secretary? What would your secretary tell you?
— You’re asking your secretary if she has already made a car rental reservation for your next business trip. What would you tell your secretary? What would your secretary tell you?
— Your secretary is sick so you have to make a reservation to a restaurant for your next business meeting. What would you say over the phone to the restaurant receptionist? What would the restaurant receptionist tell you?
It is very important to be clear about your business trip plans whenever planning a schedule. Your business success depends on how clear your communication skills are.

— Your spouse reminds you of an event that you have planned this evening. What would you tell your spouse? What would your spouse tell you?
— Your daughter reminds you of a school play she’ll participate in tonight. What would you tell your daughter? What would your daughter tell you?
— Your colleague reminds you of a deadline that’s soon approaching on a work project you’re both working on. What would you tell your colleague? What would your colleague tell you?
Usually when you have a short discussion, you come up with a response to a question or a solution to a problem that needs to be fixed. Remember to be thoughtful and clear when participating in a short discussion.

— Your sister complains that you’re taking too much time in the bathroom and she can’t use it when she needs to. What would you tell your sister? What would your sister tell you?
— You ate dinner but forgot to wash the dishes. What would you tell your upset mother? What would your mother tell you?
— You forgot to take the trash out after you were asked by your parents. What would your parents say? What would you say to your parents?
Sometimes a noisy quarrel can become a loud fight when people aren’t considerate of others. What would you do to deescalate a family squabble?
